The Narrow Path – My Story

The Narrow Path
Enter you in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in there at. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.
It is the narrow path; where we strive to hear, understand, remember and obey the voice of Yahweh. As children of Yahweh (Yahawah/Jehovah) we do not believe in Yahweh, we know Yahweh as our father and mother, our strength and refuge. Beliefs are shaky – some of us used to believe in Santa Claus. Trust is not built on belief – it’s built on experience: witnessing and knowing Yahweh, who is always there with you.
This website is bible based – but we don’t believe in the bible as the inerrant word of God. We know the bible as a source of information some of which is given us in parables and stories; had it not been so the bible would still be hidden away. The bible has been tampered with, arranged, rearranged, and changed but the truth is still in it.
Often faith is only belief and belief is usually too fragile to withstand truth. Hearing the truth causes some to abandon their faith completely. This Wisdom website is the result of questioning, praying for answers and digging into the scriptures to understand them and how they apply to those living in the world today.
This website is about enjoying the opportunity that we have to think, research, and reflect on the bible and truth as we know and experience it in the world around us. Just like Isaiah 1:4 is speaking to the people in its time, it’s also speaking to the people in our time, because it is evident that it applies to us. And we know that “the thing that has been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
This site is unorthodox because it’s not about religion, or religious doctrine. It’s about Yahweh’s narrow path; the way of truth, love and sacrifice. Yahweh doesn’t care to make his children materially rich, and he doesn’t care to give them more and more stuff. He wants them to have what they need and to be rich in the Holy Spirit (Wisdom) of Yahweh. This is the place where we are welcome to dig deeper, into scripture, into our hearts and into our lives with the results being a true and close relationship with our Father and Mother, Yahawah (Yahweh).
MY STORY
I grew up reading the bible with its fantastic children’s stories and I believed them. Unfortunately, I reached a time in my life at about 10 years old, when I couldn’t accept the religion of the bible. Bad things happened – the devil did it. Good things happened – God did it. I started asking a lot of questions. Where did evil come from? Why did God create the devil when he knew what would happen to us? The response was an emphatic, “Who are you to question God!” I couldn’t stop it of course. Yahweh had given me a mind full of questions, but unfortunately, my questions were threatening people’s faith. I didn’t understand it then.
By the age of 14 I became a non-denominational Christian. And at 17 I found an eastern religion that I felt was more grounded in reality. It had teachers (gurus, swamis) and answers. The answer to all my questions was, “look within for your answers” and the way for living was “see god in each other”. Those two truths resonated with my soul, and I loved them. I felt there was Satsang (good company) whenever I was with other followers or when I went to the ashram. I remember thinking this must be what the original disciples experienced.
Ultimately, the institution was not much different than any other church. It was very focused on its own survival and that meant the need to acquire material wealth became its central mission. See god in each other, Satsang, and I, got left behind, as the organization soared into the greater heights of fame and fortune. I also noticed that the popular belief became when good things happen it’s the guru’s grace and when bad things happen it’s your own fault. I was a step closer than before, but I hadn’t arrived. It wasn’t for me.
I continued to look for the truth of life while raising my family. When my daughter was about 12 years old a stranger gave her a bible when she was riding the bus. She brought it home and we would read from either Matthew, Mark, or Luke at bedtime. My daughter and I would only read those New Testament books, because I couldn’t get on board with the God who had people in the desert killing, kidnapping, and plundering the people around them.
14 years ago, I was chanting when I heard that inner voice say don’t chant Shiva chant Yahweh. I answered, “Really Yahweh, what about Jehovah?” And it said Yahweh. I started researching the name Yahweh. That’s when I learned about the only vowel being A. It didn’t stick. I didn’t have enough supporting evidence. Fortunately, around that same time my nephew also got interested in digging deeper into the biblical text. And it was wonderful because he was so very good at it. He pointed out the vowel A to me again and this time it stuck. That was a good time. My, nephew, my daughter and I were just discovering truths, in the bible. And the more we investigated the bible, the more the bible opened up the real history of life in earth for us.
Finaly, on a Wednesday night (bible study night) about five or six years ago I was on my way to bible study dreading it. It all felt empty. I was about to hear the same old history about a man and his 12 friends. The man was born of a virgin over 2000 years ago and died on the cross for all the sins of the world, including my sins. And what good had it done? No one around me was truly loving their neighbor. As I was on my way Yahweh’s Word (the Holy Spirit) said within me, “Do you remember that saying? Seek first the kingdom of Yahweh and his righteousness and everything else shall be added to you.” “Yeah, I do. What does that mean?” I thought, but I also felt happier thinking about it and my search for the kingdom was on.
Many people, like me, are not finding love and transformation in their church or religion. The church today is a poor sad copy of the secular world. It’s not trying to stand apart, but to be a part of every wrong, rotten, and backward thing, sanctioned by those in and of the world, who may or may not know any better. Yahweh’s people need places and spaces where they can meet, and talk about their walk with Yahweh in plain, honest, and questioning terms. And this website is one such place.
The Straight Gate Mission
The Straight Gate exist, to provide support to those who are drawing closer to Yahweh in their spiritual journey. It’s a site for people who are tired of rhetoric and religious doctrine and propaganda, people who are seeking a deeper understanding of biblical scripture and don’t mind doing their own thinking and researching. It’s for people who don’t see the stories in the bible in the way they were trained to see them. And who are not easily separated from their faith (Trust) in Yahweh, because they see and experience Yahweh actively working in their lives.
The bible is full of hidden wisdom. The history of the world is in that book. It tells what has been and what will be. it hasn’t gone of course, and we are privileged to see it if we will but pray for revelation, dig a little deeper beneath the surface, and allow Yahweh to guide us to understanding the true meaning of the texts.
The bible speaks to the reader about the things in the world and in their life. However, if the bible was taken away, there would still be Yahweh doing the same thing Yahweh always has done, working in, with and through his people and his creation. I encourage everyone to read the bible, using prayer, bible programs, concordances, dictionaries, books and the mind that Yahweh has given you, to get to the biblical truth, because the bible like everything in your spiritual journey is personal. It’s about you. Please feel free to join me here, for Satsang, asking questions and having discussions.
Respectfully,
